New Hampshire Courts We Serve
If you or a loved one was recently arrested or received a court summons, your first question is usually simple: What court do I have to go to, and who can stand beside me there?
At Beaton & Kiers, PLLC, we defend clients across Southeastern and Southern New Hampshire. Whether your summons directs you to a local seaside district courthouse or you are answering to an indictment at the county superior court, knowing where you stand (and what to expect when you walk through the metal detectors) makes all the difference.
How the New Hampshire Criminal Court System Works
New Hampshire organizes its trial-level courts into two main branches:
- Circuit Court – District Division (Commonly called District Courts): These courthouses handle violations, traffic offenses, and Class A and Class B misdemeanors (such as first-offense DWIs, simple assault, criminal mischief, and domestic disputes), as well as initial arraignments and probable cause hearings.
- Superior Court: These county-level courthouses handle felony indictments (such as felony drug possession, aggravated DWI, theft, and violent crimes) and conduct all jury trials. If a misdemeanor case in District Court proceeds to a jury appeal, it transfers up to the Superior Court for that county.
Below is a breakdown of every court where our criminal defense team represents clients, including jurisdictional boundaries and courthouse locations.
